Prague- All three Czech military training grounds - Libava, North Moravia, Brdy, Central Bohemia, and Boletice, South Bohemia - are still in question as host of a possible U.S. anti-missile site after U.S. experts left today, Defence Ministry spokesman Jan Pejsek said.

Experts from the U.S. Missile Defence Agency (MDA) stayed in the Czech Republic for a week to inspect the three military areas.

They are at the same time searching localities in Poland and Hungary.

The results of the U.S. mission could be released at the end of August, Defence Minister Karel Kuehnl (Freedom Union-DEU) told CTK.

Kuehnl will inform other ministers about the U.S. military experts' inspection at the government' regular session on Wednesday.

If the USA addressed the Czech Republic, the Czech government and parliament would have to first approve the construction of the anti-missile base on Czech territory. The contract on it would also define U.S. powers on the hired area.

The U.S. experts have explored geological and water conditions as well as transport and communication options, infrastructure and the protection of local inhabitants in the selected localities, the Defence Ministry said.

Washington has addressed central European countries over the establishment of "an anti-missile umbrella" since the equipment in North America is not sufficient for defence purposes.

The anti-missile device is to destroy a combat missile high in the air before it hits the target.

NATO, which the Czech Republic joined in 1999, is preparing a similar system which is, however, in the stage of preparations only.

According to unofficial information, several hundreds of Americans would serve the defence complex, while the base would also employ hundreds up to thousands of local inhabitants.

Some experts warn that apart from its economic benefit, the site could draw unwanted attention of hostile regimes or terrorists.

A recent poll has shown that most Czechs are against stationing of a U.S. anti-missile site on Czech territory. Out of the parties in parliament, only the right-wing Civic Democrats (ODS) clearly support the idea.
