Helen John out of jail, and back in!
from: Cat, Menwith Hill Women's Peace Campaign

Helen John was arrested as she stepped out of Askham Grange 20 June because of an outstanding warrant.  The warrant related to an action a couple of years ago in which she painted the Edinburgh High Court and the Visitors' Centre of the new Scottish Parliament with the following slogans or something very like them:
"Ban Trident
"No BMD
"Ban DU
"Free Angie, Ulla and Ellen" (who were in prison at that time for the Loch Goil action)

The intermediate diet will be held in Edinburgh Sheriff's Court on 10 July. She will then be tried for damage to one of the buildings on 24 July and a separate trial for the other building will be held 26 July. She may receive a custodial sentence after the trials. At the moment she is on remand at Cornton Vale, the women's prison in Scotland, where she expects to be throughout July and possibly long after, but we won't know until the 26th.

Please do write to her at the address below. Cornton is a closed prison, so you may not send stamps, books, etc. Please do send messages of support. I have spoken to Heln and she is fine, in very good spirits, and watching a lot of TV.

Anne Lee is out & enjoying the sun & the freedom, trying to get her garden back in order after a month away!

Anne Lee and Helen John were released from Askham Grange prison on Wednesday. Anne had finished her month served of the two month sentence she was given for cutting the fence at Menwith Hill. Helen was also being released before finishing her 3 months sentence for tha same action providing she went straight home and waited there for a tag to be fitted to monitor her movements for the rest of the sentence. However Helen didn't reach home and was arrested by York police. There was a warrant from Edinburgh Sheriff court for failure to appear for trial for painting the High Court and Scottish parliament building in September 99. She was taken to Edinburgh and was remanded in custody to Cornton Vale to await a trial on July 26th.
