Head of Planning Services, Department of Technical Services, Borough Council Offices, West Grove Road, Harrogate. HG1 2AU Dear Sir, Re: Menwith Hill NSA SIGINT Station: application to appeal your decision to offer no objections to GT7 radome ['golf ball']: letter no.2: Enclosed please find information which may assist you in your investigation of my appeal. The Wharfedale and Airedale Observer published, as its lead story on 10th January '02, with a colour picture showing 18 of Menwith Hill's 29 'golf balls', the information that Harrogate Council had offered "no objections to 22 metre radome." That information was supplied by your department. My appeal is on grounds that the Council and the public have been misinformed and that the proposed Ground Terminal 7 radome will be much bigger than 22 metres. The site plan and elevations which I examined again today in the Planning Office depict a 22 metre 'golf ball'. Enclosed also please find copies of the 10th April 1996 application for 'golf ball' MP9. On the site plan the 'golf ball' is depicted as 7 metres [c 22 feet], when it was to be encased in a 45 foot diameter radome. When I pointed out this anomaly to your department, the plans were withdrawn and resubmitted. I realise that I have slightly miscalculated the dimensions of the GT7 radome and have failed to deduct from the height the segment sliced off the base of the 30.5 metre diameter sphere where it stands on top of the 4 metre ringwall. The overall height will be c 0.5m less than I first calculated. This still makes the GT7 structure c 12m higher than depicted in the file. I believe there has been a violation of Planning Law. The public must be able to make representations to the Council on the basis of accurate information. Yours sincerely, |
