We thought that the 20th anniversary of the inauguration of the Women's Peace Camp at Greenham Common was a good date to re-establish Womenwith Hill Women's Peace Camp.
As anticipated it was windy, cold & wet, but fun. [Much better than teaching, anyway!]
Currently the camp is running daytime only, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., every day. It is located about 500 yards east of the base, in the lay-by at Kettlesing Head, on the A59 about 7 miles west of Harrogate.
We need more women to get set up full-time. Yes. Yes. Yes. All women welcome to join the visible, very public protest.
We are preparing a calendar of civil resistance actions for 2002, which we shall shortly publicise.
The regular monthly 3rd [full] weekend
camp/gathering will recommence in October [20th/21st]. This month's 3rd w/e
dates clash with CND Conference [plus there is still some foot & mouth
nearby, although restrictions have
been lifted.]
Further information may be obtained from Helen 01943 468593 [after 6 p.m. 'cos she's at camp all day].
In September 1996 the US National Security Agency i/c Menwith Hill approached the North Yorkshire County Council to evict the Women's Peace Camp. It took them 3 years' legal proceedings through the High Court. Camp was finally evicted on August 19th 1999 - did I say "finally"? Ooops!
