NOT IN OUR NAME

The Wednesday 12 December women's demonstration at the Menwith Hill US/NSA Star wars/spy base has definitely been gathering pace!  Come along on the 19th anniversary of the Greenham embrace the base action, express your concerns about the war, about Star Wars, about women's human and political rights in Afghanistan and the links between militarism and globalisation. Women will be demonstrating along the A59 road in front of the base, which is seven miles west of Harrogate in North Yorkshire.  Bring banners, warm clothing, waterproofs, things to tie to small barbed-wire fence or show to passing traffic. Women will start gathering along the A59 from 10am-dark to show that military solutions are not a solution, and their killing plans are not done in our name.

Women needing places to sleep on Tuesday or Wednesday are being accommodating in several women's houses in Otley (nearest train station Menston). Women arriving and leaving on the day are being picked up at Harrogate train station, the nearest public transport.  One pick-up time is already set for 10.45 am, look for large red Midi van, but please ring and let us know if you need to be collected at another time (if you haven't already done so).

Tel. 01943-468593.
Mobile phone number available on the day ONLY: 07951-911186.
(Note: This is being planned as a demonstration only. If some women choose to do arrestable actions, they will mostly be doing so in smaller groups.)

We know of women coming from Leeds, Bradford, London, Darlington, Southampton, Leicester, Hull, Liverpool, Sheffield and Manchester. We also have a couple of women coming all the way from Sweden!!  Wow!!  We don't know how big it will be, but a lot of women did forward on the first email notice that got sent out, and we have heard from a lot of new women coming to Menwith for the first time, so we may get up to 70-100-ish (???).

This year's demo will be great preparation for next year's 20th anniversary of the Embrace the Base action at Greenham, which attracted over 30,000 women. We need more help from around the country to organise that many for next year!!!!

See you Wednesday. Please forward this message to the women you forwarded before!
