       Keep Space for Peace


Missile Defence, or Star Wars as it's known, is the new threat to world peace and stability, threatening to provoke an arms race, international instability, the weaponisation and militarisation of space and will make the UK a target. The two key US bases in Britain needed for the system are in Yorkshire.

To the United States Space Command, Space is the "fourth medium of warfare". Space is becoming an increasingly important tool for modern warfare.

Some want space weaponised too. Efforts are ongoing in the USA, India and China to develop space weapons, such as space-based lasers, breaking the Outer Space Treaty and turning space in to a battlefield

Yorkshire CND has a wealth of expertise on space issues and campaigns against the weaponisation and further militarisation of space before star wars becomes reality. Find out more and take action.

US Bases 
Yorkshire has two key strategic US bases - Fylingdales and Menwith Hill . Both are key components of star wars and space military use and both are integral to the nuclear doctrine. Through lobbying, demonstrations, direct action and more, Yorkshire CND campaigns for more openness from the bases and the government and against the roles the bases play. Scrap Trident

A British nuclear-powered Trident submarine is out on patrol ready, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to fire sixteen nuclear-armed missiles. Each submarine carries 48 independently-targeted nuclear warheads. Each warhead has seven times the explosive power of the first atomic bomb at Hiroshima, which killed 140,000 civilians. This is costing us £1.5 billion every year.

Yorkshire CND actively campaigns against the "war on terrorism" and current aggressive US foreign policy and supports groups across the region that are taking action. Yorkshire CND will always support and lead anti-war movements that tie in to our remit
   
Every couple of months the Ministry of Defence takes a convoy of nuclear weapons up and down the UK in lorries, travelling at 60mph, through towns and cities. They are a terrorist target and ticking bomb. As a member of Nukewatch, Yorkshire CND campaigns against them in the Middile region of England.
